Of course, the picturesque landscapes are the main highlight of this journey. This amount gets reimbursed when you spend $35 or more at all restaurants of Pebble Beach Resorts (excluding the Pebble Beach Market). So it doesn’t come as a surprise that there’s an entrance fee of $10.50 per vehicle. It’s interesting to note that the coastline that makes up the significant part of the drive resides behind the gates of the Pebble Beach private community. Most people usually begin from Del Monte in Pacific Grove and end at Carmel-by-the-Sea on Monterey Peninsula. You can enter the 17 Mile Drive through any of the five gates present, i.e., Pacific Grove Gate, Country Club Gate, S.F.B Morse Gate, Highway 1 Gate, and the Carmel Gate. 17 Mile Drive – Cypress Point Lookout Start and Finish After all, several iconic landmarks await you here, including the Stillwater Cove, Spanish Bay, Lone Cypress, and the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links. But remember, there’s no countdown timer! Take as long as you want and immerse yourself in the mesmerizing views. It should take you approximately three hours or so to complete the entire drive. This journey encompasses a stunning stretch of roadway that circles the coastline from Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, resulting in a 17-mile loop. The Cioppino is outstanding plus the oak grilled octopus is a very flavorful delicacy! Monterey Fish House is an old house, crowded with a blvd view. Pass on dining (IMO, food does not support price paid). Suggestion: Pre-dinner cocktail at Restaurant 1833 with its fancy cocktail bar and outdoor fire pit seating. Suggestion: Buy a bottle of wine (Albarino) at Scheid and stop roadside (turnout adjacent Bird Rock) by Monterey Peninsula Golf Course and enjoy a refreshment enjoying the breakers and potentially the sunset at the public picnic tables! Head via the Lodge, stop at the Lone Cypress and eventually exit at Pacific Grove Gate. Drive down and park by the private Beach Club to walk along the beach. After the 15th green, take a left, head to another Pebble manned "gate house" and just say "Public Beach". Send a private nessage if you are interested in how! Consider touring the close by actual Carmel Mission, enjoy some wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards tasting room (excellent wines with wide spectrum of varietals (Portuguese/Spanish++). The coastline section of 17-Mile drive is fantastic!Ĭoming from SF, I would start by checking in or leaving my bags (if early) at the Carmel Mission Inn (great choice). The homes are not impressive from the Drive while driving on narrow, windy with limited view roads. Note: The upper "loop", as mentioned above, is a HUGE waste of time. Toy's post - Carmel Hill gate and Hwy 1 gate are the same. Or you might want to just pop in for a drink. I don't know if you get same day in/out privileges with the gate fee but if you spend $30 at any of the restaurants at the Lodge at Pebble Beach or the Inn at Spanish Bay, you can get the $10 gate fee refunded. Then you can drive through Carmel and enter at Carmel gate if you wish. The best scenery is along the coastal portion and that's where the most expensive real estate/big houses will be.Ĭarmel Gate is really not that close to Mission Ranch so if you want to check in at Mission Ranch, I'd do that first (continue on Hwy 1 south and exit at Rio Rd) before doing 17 mile drive. You don't really need to do the entire 17 mile loop either. After you exit the PG gate, I would continue along Sunset Dr and drive the PG coastline as that's also beautiful. Are you doing this before dinner in Monterey? If so, then yes I would enter at the Highway 1 Gate (where Hwy 1 and 68 meet) and exit at Pacific Grove Gate before heading to Monterey.
